MUSICAL DIRECTOR – John Powell

John Powell

John has been a bandsman over 40 years, starting on 3rd cornet at the age of 13. He quickly progressed through the ranks to principal cornet with Chard Concert Brass. John played with Chard for over 30 years in total, with moves to Crewkerne Town, Crewkerne Concert and Sherborne bands.

We were very fortunate when John joined us in 1995, playing soprano cornet and his solos quickly became a crowd pleaser. With a lifelong ambition to become a Musical Director, John attended a brass band studies course at Accrington College under the directorship of Richard Evans. His dream came true when he was appointed as our Musical Director in May 2003, in succession to Pat Perry. The rest, as the saying goes, is history.
