Good times…

Tonight we were delighted to welcome some more guest players to our seafront concert.

In addition to Andy on cornet and Julie on flugel horn, who have been joining us regularly this summer, there was Pat on horn, Jeff on baritone, Dave on cornet and Ian on trombone. (Photo below left). They are currently attending the Wessex Band Workshop at Sturminster Newton School and after a hard day playing there they came over to join us for the evening. They are all accomplished musicians who play for a variety of brass bands including Dunchurch Band from near Rugby, Hathern Band, Loughborough and The Ratby Daytime Band, Enderby Concert Band and Lutterworth Town Band, all from Leicestershire. It was lovely to have them with us and we hope to see them again next year.

This evening our concert included two solo performances. Kathy and Ellis, on cornet, played a beautiful arrangement of “Stranger on the Shore(below centre) and Steve, also on cornet, gave a perfect rendition of “Georgia“. The most popular piece of the night was “Sweet Caroline“, with the audience joining in the chorus and providing accompaniment on percussion.

No concert is complete without marking someone’s birthday and in addition to several birthdays within the ranks of the band we were this time pleased to honour a member of the audience, Uplyme resident Emma Haughton, joined by her family (below right). Her daughter Hetty had written to us “Mum is a huge fan of Lyme Regis Town Band and regularly is there – usually with her knitting! If Happy Birthday dedicated to her was possible she would be over the moon at this little gesture.”

Thanks very much to everyone who came along to hear us play. Next week is Carnival Week and we will be back again next Tuesday evening, at 7.45 pm to join in the fun.

Thanks as ever to Annette for the photos. Gilly
