Band bids farewell to Peter

Band members recently bade farewell to Peter Hurdwell, their former principal cornet player. Peter joined the band over fifteen years ago, taking up the position vacated by well-known local musician Dennis Bye. In common with former Lyme town crier Phil Street, his job with Westland is taking him to the South of France for the next three years.

Paying tribute to Peter, the band’s Chairman, Paul Snowball, thanked him for his many years of devoted service and for the great contribution he had made and wished him every success in France. He was presented with a print of rr 2014-04-24 010 (800x756)Lyme Regis, together with a card signed by all the members.

Peter will be particularly remembered for his cornet solos during the summer season of concerts on Marine Parade. His renditions on the posthorn of the famous ‘Posthorn Gallop’ never failed to draw huge applause from holidaymakers. Peter commented, ‘I am very sad at leaving, but will treasure all the great memories I have’.

Tuesday evening concerts begin on 7th July and there are several Sunday afternoon concerts as well. Two new features for this season will be the occasional appearance of a guest artist and a joint concert with Ottery St Mary Band on Sunday 16th August at 2.30 p.m. All dates of the summer concerts can be found on the diary page.
