Blessing the Boats 2019

Last week the band joined the local RNLI and lots of locals and holidaymakers at the lifeboat station on Lyme’s Cobb for the annual Blessing of the Boats. Hymns, prayers and readings made up the service led by local clergy before the lifeboat quietly manoeuvred out of the harbour to lay wreaths in memory of those lost at sea. The band, besides accompanying the hymns and playing Amazing Grace during the wreath-laying, contributed some stirring sea-themed music to round off the event. It was really nice to see three members of our training band among the players. It’s good to be back on the seafront – the start, let’s hope, of a season of sunny afternoons playing good music beside the sea.
