Our AGM went well last night. Most band members were present, including our trainees and our two trustees. Owen, our President, was in charge and we rapidly got through the formalities including the election of officers and committee members. Thanks were expressed to Geoff Poulton, who is leaving the committee after many years service and Ray McFadden was welcomed as a new committee member.

Ellis gave a resume of our recent activities and outlined some exciting new projects under consideration for the forthcoming year. In the Musical Director’s report David praised band members for their hard work and commitment but advised us that he will continue to urge us to achieve even more. Adrian, as Treasurer, presented our annual accounts which showed that we are still solvent and the accounts were adopted.

The most exciting part of the evening was the presentation of the our awards. The Musical Director’s Award, for the most improved player, went to our youngest player, Enzo, and was well deserved. Finally, we were delighted to have Dan Broom and Julia May with us, who presented the Gordon Broom Award to Adrian on behalf of their family.

After the meeting was over there was barely a minute to draw breath or pour a cup of tea before David was cracking the whip and we got down to tackling the huge stack music that has just been handed to us - David wasn’t joking when he said he would be urging us on to work harder ………..

Final reminder - we are holding our AGM at Woodmead Halls tomorrow evening (30th January) at 7.45 pm. Our President, Owen Lovell, will be in the Chair and we are looking forward to welcoming our two Trustees, Derek Hallett and John Evans.

Dan Broom and Julia May will also be joining us to present the Gordon Broom Award to this year's recipient, in memory of their Grandfather. Gordon was a member of the band when it re-formed in 1981 and we greatly value the continuing connection we have with his family.

So why not come along and join us tomorrow evening, to hear all about our activities last year, our exciting plans for the forthcoming year and to learn who has won the Gordon Broom Award! Everyone is welcome and we hope to see you there.

We got off to a great start with the launch of our Training Band earlier this week.

Five learners have now joined us, all adults, and we are very pleased to welcome Ray, Gui, Sarah, Mark and Yen. Some are starting from scratch, some have played other instruments but not brass, and some are re-starting their learning after a break. All are keen to learn and we are looking forward to seeing them progress.

We still have instruments available so if you would like to join our latest group of learners please get in touch. Lessons are held in the small at Woodmead Halls on Tuesday evenings from 7.00 pm until 7.45 pm, term time only.
