Training Band

If you are new to brass banding, the Training Band meets every Tuesday from 7:00 to 7:45p.m. at the Woodmead Halls, Lyme Regis. You can learn your instrument within this group which performs with the band throughout the year. The Training Band has its own distinctive uniform.

We provide:

  • FREE tuition
  • FREE instrument loan
  • FREE uniform loan

A charge may be made towards the cost of tutor books.

All we ask in return is that you are:

  • Regular in attendance
  • Dedicated
  • Willing and eager to improve

To protect young people, our teachers are enhanced DBS checked and we operate our own Child Protection Policy (see below).

To support their practical work, learners are encouraged to take the theory exams of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. There will be a charge for entry.

Beginners progress through to the main band at the discretion of the Musical Director.

At the end of each session, members are encouraged to sit with the main band for part or all of the rehearsal.

Lyme Regis Town Band Child Protection Policy (Updated February 2022)

1. REGISTRATION
Every new pupil must be registered by a parent or guardian with full name,
address, date of birth and contact numbers of next of kin. This information will
be kept in line with our Data Protection policy.
2. APPOINTMENT OF TUTORS
Our tutors are volunteers and long standing members of the band.
3. SAFE ENVIRONMENT
Both rehearsal venues have level access and are not open to public scrutiny.
4. PHOTOGRAPHS
Permission for use of photographs for band purposes will be collected on
registration. In the event that permission is not obtained the student/pupil will
be removed before a photograph is taken. Parents will be made aware before
performances that the public are likely to take photographs. Additional
measures can be put in place to prevent this on an individual basis.
5. CHILD PROTECTION PROCEDURES
All children in the band or any future training band will be instructed that if
they become aware of any inappropriate behaviour or have any worries or
concerns about the treatment of any child/pupil to contact the Child Protection
Officer. The CPO for Lyme Regis Town Band is the Musical Director, Mr David
Tozer. The CPO will then seek guidance from Children’s Advice and Duty Service
(ChAD) and discuss the situation with them. If it is then thought necessary, the
Police will be informed.
