The Band is back on Parade

What a perfect evening we had last night! The weather was warm and balmy, and the bay looked beautiful with Golden Cap catching the late evening sun and the sky a lovely shade of pink and mauve. We had a super audience who helped us out with a bit of audience participation on percussion, and we were delighted to play an encore at the end of the evening, thanks to the persistence of our resident cheer leader Nigel Ball!
The evening was extra special for several reasons. One of our trainees, Jonathan, who plays trombone, has just passed his Grade 3 music exam, with a merit, and David, our MD, presented him with his certificate to warm applause.
There was also a VIP in the audience – David’s baby daughter, Evelyn – who joined her dad for one number, waving the baton. She did very well and quite honestly we couldn’t tell the difference!
Finally, it was family night all round as we played Happy Birthday for David’s mum-in-law, Michelle, who also had the dubious pleasure of conducting the band.
For the first time this summer our hard working collectors were on duty and we are very grateful to Josh, Robert, Christian and Ernie for their efforts on our behalf.
We were thrilled that one young fan chalked a message for us on the area in front of the band stand with an arrow pointing towards the band and the caption “good music”. What an accolade – very many thanks to whoever wrote such a lovely message!
Guest players Andy and Julie were with us once again, and there is a possibility that we might have a few more joining us next Tuesday, which will be great – the more the merrier!
Thanks as usual to Annette, Rachel and Christian for the super photos. Words: Gilly
